Attitudes—Creating Good Ones!

The Attitudes project began with 23 HIV infected women to be provided with vocational skills training. Five women were placed at the Liana Cane Factory in Plaisance to learn basketry and upholstery, while the remaining 18 were sent to the YWCA to receive training in leather craft and fabric design.

Ms Jocelyn Dowe, owner of Liana Cane confirmed that the five PLWHA at her factory have been exemplary in the discipline as far as time keeping, commitment to work and enthusiasm. She mentioned that she would be happy to have them on board as permanent staff if they continue to perform well.

Two self -awareness sessions have been conducted so far by Miss Bonita Harris and Rolinda Kirton. The women have learnt about their self worth, parenting skills and relationship building. They have also been encouraged to lend support to each other.

The 23 women hail from different support groups and Ministry of Health Clinical Sites.
