HIV/AIDS Family Planning workshop continues this weekend

The second weekend of a Community Mobilisers’ HIV Project aimed at providing initial training for persons to become HIV/AIDS educators for the Family Planning Association of Guyana, gets underway today at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Building, Camp Road, Georgetown.

The four-day workshop which began last Saturday continued through Sunday and will wrap up this weekend.

About fifteen participants drawn from NGOs and other entities around Region Four are involved in the training.

Facilitators for the workshop which is being sponsored jointly by the Family Planning Association of Guyana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health/World Bank Guyana HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Project are: Jason Shepherd and Shameza David of the Family Planning Association of Guyana.

According to Shepherd, the objectives of the project are to:

  • Educate participants on HIV/AIDS Prevention

  • Teach participants the basics of STIs, HIV/AIDS

  • Improve the communication skills of participants

  • Prepare participants to plan for peer education sessions


Facilitate the transfer of information from peer education to the wider community
