GUYANESE in the Caribbean Partnership for Nurses in HIV/AIDS Care on Wednesday last began distributing their publication on the pandemic.

The booklet, entitled ‘Caribbean HIV and AIDS Pocket Guide for Nurses’, provides health professionals with a ready source of information on updated knowledge and best practices in care and treatment.

The distribution started at Cara Lodge on Quamina Street, Georgetown, during a maternal and child health expanded programme on immunization.

Introducing the compilation, Mrs. Grace Bond, Chief Nursing Officer in the Ministry of Health, said the organisation responsible for publishing it was formed last year.

She said the main aim of the grouping is to empower nurses in the region, through education, training and mentorship, to influence national and regional policy and improve care for persons living with the disease.

Bond said the vision is for nurses working on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment throughout the Caribbean to be united, empowered, trained and supported to lead the campaign against the affliction and improve the lives of the latter.

The other countries grouped in the partnership are The Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago and the compilation is to be distributed in all, she said.

In Guyana, nurses in every Administrative Region will be updated from time to time, as well.

A copy of the guide can be downloaded from the website: www.chartcaribbean.org.
