The National HIV/AIDS website (www.hiv.gov.gy) has won a World Summit Award for being one of the Best Practice examples of quality e-Content in the world.

The website is one of the 40 winners that were selected from the 650 nominations from 160 countries.

The World Summit Award (WSA) is a global initiative to select and promote the world's best e-Content, started in 2003 in the framework of the United Nations'World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

This is done through national contests, a global contest which is held every 2 years, and numerous content-focused national and international conferences and workshops that are part of the WSA Road Show.

WSA is an invitation project and a global hub for everyone, who sees the crucial importance of excellent e-Content creation. As of today, 168 countries are actively involved in WSA.

The WSA Grand Jury 2007 met for one week from September 1, bringing together eminent multimedia and e-Content experts from 32 countries to evaluate the nominations. The jury selected the five most outstanding products in each of the eight WSA Categories as Winners. The categories are e-Government, e-Health, e-Learning, e-Entertainment, e-Culture, e-Science, e-Business and e-Inclusion.

The National HIV/AIDS website is one of the winners selected in the category of e-Health.

The official public announcement and celebration of the WSA Winners will take place at the WSA 2007 Gala on November 5, at Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice .

The National HIV/AIDS website was developed in 2005 and is maintained by the Ministry of Health, with support from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the International Training and Education Center on HIV (I-TECH). The webmaster is Romona Khan.

The site provides HIV/AIDS related information tailored for various audiences, access to HIV/AIDS programme documents in a searchable repository and updates on activities of the National HIV/AIDS programme.
