Charity assists HIV/AIDS affected families with school, other items

Source: Stabroek News , 13th September, 2007

HIV/AIDS charity Project BX recently presented school uniforms and other items to children whose parents are living with the infection and those whose parents had succumbed to it, to help them to prepare for the new school term.

In a press release the group said the donation is part of its ongoing efforts to offer care and support to PLWHAs and persons affected by the infection.

Project BX provides food hampers and vitamins each month to these groups in East Coast communities.

The group, which operates under the theme 'Education is the key to prevention', engages in peer education and peer counselling training exercises in an effort to increase awareness of and, subsequently, reduce the spread of the infection. Project BX also hosts community health outreach programmes in the communities.

The group is funded by the Health Sector Development Unit under a government/World Bank initiative.
